Socktober: ‘The Bird’
Beautiful little Birds.

For this Socktober I did make a pair of socks, based on the Ravelry pattern by Karin Aida. I wanted something that used some simple color work, because I had my Gireen and black hand dyed yarns, and I was dying to use them.

Stitch pattern details

I picked the pattern because, honestly, it’s been a ‘fuck you’ sort of month, which is just rollover from last month. My dog died, and the same day I found out my estranged father had died. Like I said. A real ‘fuck you’ sort of month. I can’t think of two colors that would report that message louder, either.

I say I used the pattern but I didn’t, really, I used the chart. I used the Fish Lips Kiss Heel because so far it’s my favorite of those I know (I know about four methods of making heels for socks at this point).

I also, obviously, deviated from the pattern for the bottom of the socks because I wanted to, plain and simple. I don’t think you can get simpler than the checked design, either.

Needles

I didn’t make these two at a time, instead using my new Chiaogoo Twist Mini set using the 1’s and the shortest cord. It would have been great, except the cord weirdly got a kink in it (which I thought was impossible!) and I had a pretty rough join on the one needle, but it STILL was by far my favorite needle to use, so even the rough join wasn’t as bad as having to use an overly long loop for magic loop, or using the one of the other interchangeable sets I have (which will not be named and shamed).

Experience

These were fun socks to knit, and I didn’t have second sock syndrome at all (which is why I love knitting two at a time), because the first sock was really awesome and made me want the pair even more.
