THC Percentage is a Marketing Gimmick: Stop Falling for It
We Deserve a Cannabis Market That is Focused on Superior Product, not High THC Values.
Does THC tell you what your high is going to be like? According to some researchers — barely. I can tell you, I’ve had 99.9% THC and a lot of it — it’s not the only component of the experience of getting high. I’m not the only one that will tell you that, either.
So why do so many people care about THC Percentage?
Easy Marketing.
The fact of the matter is, it’s easier for the cannabis industry to sell you weed when all you care about is THC.
They don’t need to care about what experience you’re trying to have, because all they need to do is sell you a THC value.
They don’t have to care about lab rules or regulations, as long as the number is right.
They don’t need to care about the grower, the processor, or any of that — as long as the product has a THC value that you’ll buy.
They don’t have to know about the medical value of hundreds of terpenes,
They don’t have to know anything about the product at all — except the THC number.
Sure, it’s a step up from going to buy from a dealer on the black market — but only barely, because the longer that cannabis is sold this way, the more smaller, craft-focused businesses are driven out because they simply can’t compete.
You see, the businesses that don’t engage in the THC price fixing: from the labs to the farms — are failing and will fail if this continues. Cannabis isn’t a money printing machine, and in many cases, governments are taking money in taxes and licensing fees and not appropriately using data and other modern tools to monitor the market place.
So Stop Looking at THC, and Start Actively Pressuring for Other Metrics
I’ve tried to tell you that some places will put anything on the label to make the sale — I don’t know how to make it clearer. I’ve done in-depth articles on what you should monitor and record to understand what you are looking for in cannabis. I’ve talked about terpenes (oh boy HAVE I).
Start asking your dispensaries for terpene information for every purchase you make. Ask them for what laboratories performed the testing. If you don’t start asking for this information, the industry will continue to claim that the reason they only report THC is because consumer’s don’t care.
Let’s show them that we care.
Ask them for more information .
If you have a favorite farm and strain already, seek out the terpene information on it. Even if you already know — ask, so that the industry can hear the question being asked.
You deserve to understand what’s in the cannabis that you’re consuming, far more than just THC or CBD.
The cannabis industry deserves to be run on more than one metric.
