Today’s Tarot: The Fool

Like many tarot readers, I have many decks. I commonly have been reading from one particular deck for these readings for Medium, and I draw a few cards from different decks throughout the day because, honestly, I love meditating on their meaning, the differences in the artistry, how the cards ‘feel’ different, or how the art changes the meaning. Since I’m trying to start a new life as a writer, I’m also using tarot as a tool to understand some of the archetypal things that happen in life, and how they play out in my world. And perhaps The Fool is just too close sometimes. But it’s come up three times since yesterday, so let’s talk about it.

The major arcana of the tarot represent the journey of the Fool (numbered 0, a perfect ring) into The World. There are several pillars passed through, institutions to learn from, in other words — things are learned along this journey, but the card of The Fool represents the start, the potential. It is a card of new beginnings, and of that glee that comes with taking on a new, exciting project — see how the fool is looking up into the sky (and is about to walk off the ledge for it). But the Fool isn’t alone — accompanying the fool is his dog, who will loyally protect him. Now is the time to allow yourself to dream, to see what the potential is. The fool is daring — and invites you to move past your fear towards YOUR potential.
